Working through Depression, Grief, and Other Effects of the Present Situation

I am MJ Blehart, writer, blogger, editor, and 21st-century philosopher. Welcome to Episode 50 – Working through Depression, Grief, and Other Effects of the Present Situation

This is not normal

Nothing about what is happening right now is normal. This is scary, and it is like nothing any of us have ever experienced before.

People are fighting fear, grief, depression, and general distress over this. Social distancing has a different impact on everyone, and for some people this is really tough.

There is no end in sight. Nobody knows how long this is how it will be.

You need nobody’s permission to feel depression, grief, or other effects of the present situation

Nobody is in your head but you. As such nobody can tell you how to feel.

You have the power to take control over this, but that is still not without challenges.

Practice mindfulness. This can help you be in the here-and-now and be present in the moment. That will help you gain influence and control over your own mindset and headspace.

Working through these emotions is rough because in self-quarantine you can’t get a hug from the people you miss.

Loved ones you share your home with are great, but they may not be everyone you need to interact with.

Feeling negative is ok. It is ok to not be ok.

Be mindful of “What if?”

Nobody knows how this situation will turn out. There are so, so many “What If?” Questions to be had.

Keep “What if?” questions to this moment in time.

Once you are present in the moment and seeing where you are at in the here-and-now, you DO have “What if?” questions you could ask.

You will be ok. There are people who you can reach out to for help. Please take care of yourself as you need to.
